"Barechahariya Bhaona Mahotsav" is a great cultural extravaganja held every fifth year at Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district of Assam. It is a unique cultural event which is held at Jamugurihat only and no where in Assam & in India. This festival is a mirror of cultural excellence and harmony of art forms. Normally, the traditional Bhaona is dramatization of mythological episodes imbed Bhakti spirit rendered with different Ragas & Talas and are played by a team of village folk only in a Namghar (holy shrine) in general. In "Barechahar Bhaona" twenty one such Bhaonas are held simultaneously at different stages under a single roof made in the form of a fully blossomed lotus with locally abundant bamboo and thatch. It is a matter of wonderful feat of human dexterity and craftsmanship to build such great structure manually with community help irrespective of race, religion or tribal affiliations. The festival held on the full moon night of Assamese Chat month after the harvesting season.
